In 2024, Paul-Anton Esterházy, a descendant of the Esterházy princely family, expanded his extraordinary niche perfume brand with two new fragrances. The creator of the new Estoras perfumes is none other than Zsolt Zólyomi, the renowned Hungarian perfumer known as the “Hungarian Nose” and the founder and owner of the luxury perfumery Le Parfum.
The Estoras fragrances draw inspiration from two explorers and hunters who, in 1926, embarked on a journey in a Steyr car from Alexandria along the Nile to Khartoum, crossing the Libyan and Nubian deserts. The expedition garnered significant attention, as the two Hungarian aristocrats traveled approximately 3,000 kilometers on uncharted roads. Complementing the classic woody-spicy-ambery “Antal” fragrance, this year sees the launch of two remarkable new scents. These are inspired not only by the adventurous journey of Esterházy Antal and Count László Almásy, characters whose exploits also influenced the nine-time Oscar-winning film “The English Patient”, but also by Zsolt’s own childhood memories. Both perfumes vividly evoke the incredible African adventures experienced by these two legendary figures.
The "Port of Alexandria" Eau de Parfum immediately captures the scent of fishing nets and seaweed drying on the docks, piles of citrus peels in the courtyard of an Arab coffeehouse, and the salty sea breeze blowing in from the Mediterranean. This strikingly evocative perfume transports us back in time, almost cinematically, allowing us to share the moment when our heroes arrive, in spirit, from the port of Trieste to the bustling, noisy, and chaotic Egyptian harbor. Here, the cries of seagulls mix with the shouts of robed Arabs amid the loading and unloading of diverse goods and spices. The oily, animalic aroma of the fish market melds with the iodine-salty scent of the seawater, as weary travelers are offered freshly squeezed citrus juice.
The "Shadows of Giza" is a fragrance steeped in mystery, leading us to the entrance of the Great Pyramid of Giza. This deep and complex scent features leather, violet leaf, angelica root, and one of the world’s most precious perfume ingredients: the extract of orris root.
