In October, the featured wines of the month include a new offering from the Heimann family, which connects generations, the latest vintage of the famous Mandolás from Oremus, and a refined champagne. Visit the Bortársaság store and choose according to your taste!
BÖKŐ DÁVID “Parti Sétány” 2023
One of the classics from the Balaton selection is Dávid Bökő’s subtly hazy and lively riesling, Parti Sétány. As with previous vintages, the grapes for this fourth release were sourced from organically farmed plots in Füred and Csopak. After pressing, the clear must underwent spontaneous fermentation. The result is a clean and long-lasting wine, with a pleasant saltiness, refreshing bitterness, and lower alcohol content compared to previous years. It is bottled unfiltered and unfined, with minimal sulfur added.
OREMUS Mandolás 2022
Whether in Rioja, Galicia, or Tokaj, when the Vega Sicilia team establishes itself in a wine region, a new style is born with the very first spade cut. Their goal has never been to override authentic grape varieties, but with Mandolás, it is clear that this legendary furmint reflects both the essence of Tokaj and Vega Sicilia’s generous approach. The current vintage of Mandolás, which has been refined for two decades, has been available since spring, and after the hot summer, it was felt that now was the time to explore it further. It offers explosive freshness, green herbs, a rounded, delicately creamy palate, with a mineral and dry finish. This wine features ancient furmint clones, volcanic soils with semi-precious stones, local barrels, and a multi-component blend.
LAJVÉR "Három Hordó" 2021
The year 2021 was ideal for the Szálka vineyard terraces. Even when tasting the barrel samples, a rich and full-bodied wine emerged. The members of Bortársaság, together with the Lajvér professional team and guided by winemaker Ildikó Heppenheimer, selected three barrels from Hungarian coopers. All were first-fill barrels, two of which matured cabernet sauvignon, while the third aged cabernet franc for a year and a half. After blending in equal proportions, the wine underwent another year of aging. Finally, inspired by Bordeaux classics, an ochre label was chosen for the bottles. This is a joint blend from the Lajvér estate and Bortársaság.
HEIMANN Barbarossa 2022
The Heimann estate is a family affair, a 22-hectare business in the heart of Szekszárd with 96,000 vines, which have been organically cultivated for two years. It is rare for them to introduce a new wine to their range, but now the time has come. Barbarossa bridges two generations and two winemaking styles: it carries the overflowing, hedonistic character of classic Heimann wines, with a core that almost feels sweet, followed by a very fine dryness that lightens the sip, reminiscent of true Chiantis. Those familiar with the Barbar can relate the two, as the grape composition is almost identical. The texture of the wine, "the fresh vibrancy of Bati-kereszt," makes for a completely novel experience.
HERNYÁK Brut
Anyone familiar with the history of Hungarian wine will recognize the name Hernyák. Starting in 1993 with traditions brought from Vojvodina and the first 100 liters of pálinka, they soon found themselves harvesting grapes at the local Swabian community’s wine festivals. Today, they are one of the leading names in Etyek sparkling wine. With organic cultivation, classic champagne varieties, and a well-kept estate around their Old Hill press house with copper stills, distilleries, and charming spaces, Hernyák is a favorite at Bortársaság. A portion of the base wine for their Brut was aged in barrels, and reserve wine was added at bottling. The maturity brings a new dimension to the store’s Hungarian sparkling wine selection.
